Prostate Cancer

We all know that prostate cancer can happen to any male and it is a very common type of cancer. The commonest form of cancer in the United States today is skin cancer but, to many people’s surprise, prostate cancer is the second most frequently seen type of cancer and results in some 30,000 deaths each year. According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, this type of cancer is the most prevalent non-skin cancer in the United States.

A prostate seed implant may be the only type of radiation therapy needed by a man with low-risk prostate cancer or it may be prescribed in addition to external beam radiation therapy in men with intermediate- and high- risk prostate cancer. If caught in its early stages prostate cancer can be successfully treated either by surgery or radiation therapy (radiotherapy) and, while such treatment can often leave its mark in terms of ongoing problems with urination or a degradation or loss of sexual function, the cancer will often not return. Curing prostate cancer is possible, and the treatment is more effective if cancer is detected in the early stages.

Curing prostate cancer is possible, but the condition has to be detected in the early stages. Because prostate cancer is a relatively slow-growing disease and easy to control if it is detected early enough, the regular screenings are recommended for obese people experiencing the above symptoms. Although the aforementioned prostate statistics don’t seem to be good, the truth of the matter is that if prostate cancer is detected early, treatments are often very successful and chances of surviving are very high.

Although the same researchers were quick to point out that each year fewer and fewer men are dying of prostate cancer, due to awareness, better treatments and early detection through new and more available screening techniques. In order to catch prostate cancer in its early stages, it is recommended that men with no risk factors get an annual screening every year beginning at age 50. In addition, beginning at age 50, an annual PSA test is necessary because it is substantially more sensitive for men health than DRE when it comes to detecting early, tiny, or even microscopic cancers that are confined to the prostate gland.

In addition, another confusing aspect is that most of the possible warning signs, if they appear, are also the same signs for other prostate health problems that are non-cancerous in nature, such as BPH, which is called an enlarged prostate gland. I’m sure that we’ve all heard at some point or another the notion that more sex is the solution to prostate problems, citing as evidence the high incidence of prostate cancer in celibate priests. This could be the first time an evidence is produced that a virus is related to prostate cancer development.

Probably, the conclusion that drugs lowering cholesterol may help prevent prostate cancer or at least decrease its development is premature. Sun exposure prevent prostate cancer and the new research suggest vitamin D in supplement may be a safer option today for men. Researchers shown that vitamin D has many micronutrients promote and prevent the prostate cancer in men.

Chemotherapy is typically not effective against prostate cancer although newer drugs developed in recent years have shown the ability to relieve symptoms in men with advanced prostate cancer. According to Prostate Cancer Foundation, symptoms of the ailment include a necessity to urinate very often, weak urine flow, difficulty in starting urination, painful or burning urination, painful ejaculation, blood cells in the semen or urine, as well as frequent pain and cramps in the lower back, hips and upper thighs. One of the most common symptoms listed above is the difficulty starting to pass urine, but keep your eye out for the others.

Simple Diet Tip that Really Works - Violates All the Conventional

Filed Under (Dieting) by M. L. Dillians on 29-04-2008

Feet on a scaleImage via Wikipedia

by M. L. Dillians

After giving it much thought, I decided it is time to get serious about losing weight. This tip is one of a series I intend to write - about diet ideas that worked for me.

My new idea was simple - do it my way and ignore all the advice.

The first idea I had was to weigh myself every day. Sure, I know you are thinking, all the so called experts advise that you should weigh yourself only once a week at most. Why? Because they think you will get “discouraged” if you weigh too often and don’t see results from your diet.

My problem with weighing only once a week? I don’t get feedback from my efforts (or failures) fast enough.

Fast Feedback is the Key

By weighing myself every day, I learn immediately whether my actions and eating pattern from the previous day were successful or not in trying to lose weight.

The first thing I purchased when I started the diet was a high quality scale similar to those you’d see in a Doctor’s office. I spent about $150 on this scale, but I feel confident with the results from it since it doesn’t give different readings every day. I think that having such a reliable scale and weighting myself right after getting out of bed, before eating breakfast each day, is a key to getting useful feedback.

This sense of confidence is necessary for the feedback to have its full effect. On a daily basis, with this new regimen, I am assured that if I splurge with a burger and fries from a fast food restaurant at lunch, the following day’s feedback will show little, if any, lost weight. Conversely, maintaining discipline with my eating will directly result in lost pounds. Ordinarily, results are clear everyday or at least every other day.

Everyday feedback lets me see both my successes and mistakes. My prior, failed, dieting attempts have shown that weekly weighing is not frequent enough for my requirements. Seven days is too long and results in me forgetting the root causes of gained or lost weight. My session with the scale each morning allows me to go over in my mind the previous day’s food consumption.

Of course, as with any idea, daily weighing has its downsides too. The most important of these is that I can feel bad when I’ve had a bad day the day before. It is important not to let that feeling get me down, though.

If you are finding it difficult to shed pounds, I highly recommend giving this tip a try.

Loosing Weight with Targeted Goals

Filed Under (Dieting) by C S Liner on 25-04-2008

by C S Liner

Many people think that Loosing Weight is a simple fact of getting a diet and not eating very much. This could not be any further from the truth the fact is loosing weight by dieting just does not work. The reason is your body stores fat for times of trouble.

If you were trying to argue that you cant be an expert if you haven’t suffered than how do doctors become experts because they haven’t always suffered the ailment they are trying to treat. Haven known obese people an trying to help them I know how hard it is to motivate.

Many experts trumpet Loosing Weight with Targeted Goals and developing a systematic approach to your weight loss. By systematic we mean getting a system and sticking to it. When combined with targeted goals and a systematic approach your weight will fall off.

Setting of Goals is simple to say but you need to be dedicated and focused to make this goal setting work and succeed. Also if you start with huge goals you will never reach them start with a small goal and work your way up. This type of goal setting could be called the dynamic method.

Firstly if you are weak willed and need some help to get up in the morning get yourself a dog. A dog will wait for you every morning and will give you a guilty look if you forget. Many times you may not want to go because its to cold or 2 wet but if you have a pet then, you have motivation to go.

After consulting your doctor you now have your first target for Loosing Weight, hopefully a realistic and achievable goal. For the sake of argument lets say your doctor has said 5% in a month should be your target. You now need to get yourself a plan.

For the best way to achieve you required weight loss it is best to use a balanced program and not just a diet, but exercise as well. By combining a set of sensible dietary systems and a mild fitness program you can’t help but change your lifestyle. And by definition by changing your lifestyle you change your life.

If you don’t believe that goals help with successful weight loss then a simple search of google will give you all the information you need to prove my theory. Not one of the sites you visit will dispute this theory.

Basically Loosing Weight with Targeted Goals is possibly the only way you will successfully change your weight. Because it has been proven that a scatter board approach just does not work. You will be back at square 1 before you have made it to the first month.

The Powers of Whey Protein

Filed Under (General) by Travis Killian on 21-04-2008

By Travis Killian

In order to fuel life, our body needs a constant supply of three major macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats, and protein. Carbohydrates and fats help to supply our bodies mostly with energy. Protein however is a bit different.

Proteins are different because they are composed of chains of nitrogen. This is further divided into little units called amino acids - and these are the basic building blocks of muscle. Amino acids also serve as an essential source of dietary nitrogen, which is an essential element for your body.

Because these amino acids help to build lean muscle, it is important to consume a lot of them when you are trying to get a better physique. This is why whey protein is so important. Whey protein digests within a half and hour and contains all of your essential amino acids. In addition, whey protein is very cheap and it tastes swell as well.

One of the best times to take whey protein is right after you workout. The reason for this is that your muscles are depleted of their glycogen reserves and your muscle tissues are broken down. After you workout, you are highly sensitive to insulin - which shuttles muscles to your muscles rather than fat.

During this period it is very important to get as much protein and carbohydrates to your muscles as possible. You want to build back up your glycogen reserves and build back stronger so that you can hit the gym sooner. This allows for you to grow faster and stronger than ever.

Whey protein is also very safe for you. There is no evidence that says that whey protein has any harmful side effects. With moderation, it is very safe. In fact, it can boost your immune system and increase muscularity. Whey protein is also natural and is found in everyday food such as milk.

You want to make sure that you take whey protein especially after you workout and wake up. Your body is highly sensitive during these times and the fast absorption of whey protein will be fully utilized. You can take it at other times during the day, but don’t let whey protein take the place of natural foods.

For the rest of the day, just stick to your healthy foods. Make sure and eat plenty of nuts, dairy, lean meats, vegetables and fruit. All of these serve a purpose that whey protein will not do, and without proper diet you will never see results. Remember that diet and training is greater than supplements.

Whey protein is any bodybuilder’s, or person who wants to make a positive change in their appearance, best friend. Its benefits are astounding and you should always value the health of your body. Build confidence through an impressive physique and a better life through feeling great about you.
